It's time for accessible and comprehensive midwifery-based care...again. Since the beginning of humanity, babies have been guided into the world by the hands of midwives. Over time, the medical model became overwhelmingly more common, and the ability to offer truly personalized care went away with its emergance. While we should respect the medical model and it's life saving advances we should also recognize that the large majority of pregnancies are not medical conditions, and trying to fit a natural process into a very differently shaped box can actually be harmful. The midwifery model of care puts you in the center. Midwives are healthcare experts that are trained to know what is normal, and when interventions are necessary, however we recognize you as the expert of your own body. There is no hierarchy in the relationship between the midwife and parent.
Midwifery Care is a partnership.

I am an experienced phlebotomist, and make every effort to provide the most comfortable experience possible for my clients. Labs could include standard maternity labs, a variety of options for gestational diabetes screening, NIPT testing, and SneakPeek Clinical DNA testing. All lab options discussed with client for consent.
Anatomy scans done between 18-20 weeks. Additional scans used only if clinically indicated. A biophysical profile is required at 41 weeks.
I offer both home birth or birth center options. Both Fair Flowers Birth Services Birth Center (Mt. Pleasant, TX) and Embrace Birth Center (Longview, TX) are within 5 minutes or less of the closest hospital. I provide your birth kit and can loan a birth pool if water birth is desired at home. Both birth centers also have water birth capabilities.
Mom and baby are monitored throughout labor using a handheld doppler. This means, no restriction in movement.
A complete newborn assessment done right at your bedside within 2 hours of delivery.
Myself and all of my birth assistants are trained and certified in both Neonatal Resuscitation and CPR for healthcare providers. Emergency supplies and resuscitation equipment will be discreetly but conveniently on hand.
Postpartum care is just as important as prenatal care! I offer a visit for you AND your baby in your home 2-3 days postpartum, as well as in office visits at 2 weeks and 6 weeks. Additional appointments may be added if extra support is needed.
Just because your baby has arrived, doesn't mean I stop being on call for you. I'm available for any needs you may have during the postpartum period whether they be physical, or emotional.
I believe it is very important for families to have the space to discuss their birth experiences with me, with special care focused on the mental health of the mother and partner. Resources are available for help for those struggling with Perinatal Mood Disorders. I'm also able to perform PAP smears as needed.
With my training as a midwife and experience as a lactation consultant, I am able to help with initial breastfeeding education as well as some of the little bumps that may come along the way. If help is needed beyond my scope, I have resources available for that as welll!
Licensed Midwives in Texas can provide care for your baby up to 6 weeks of age. There's no need to take baby elsewhere during this time unless you want to, or desire vaccinations. Newborn screens are offered at the initial postpartum home visit, and again at 2 weeks.
